JamMan Encoder Search

The JamMan uses a very specific rotary encoder that is becoming hard to find and is starting to fail in many units. If anyone out there has any information about how I might get hold of some of these parts, please let me know (see form below). - Bob

Lexicon Part info: KNOB,17.5MM,6MM/FL,BLK/WHT/LN
Part Number on the original piece: 280-S0041

CTS Series 288 Encoder (closest substitution): Data Sheet (pdf)

Examining the original JamMan parts, my best guess for the part number based on the "Ordering Information" page is the following:
288XAA5F16-162A2

This breaks out as follows:

X - PC terminal style
A - 5.00 mm Bushing Length
A5 - 15 mm Shaft Length
F - Flatted Shaft Trim
16-16 - Com (4 Pulses) Combination
2 - 4 bit Gray Encoder Code
A - Switch Code: none
2 - Specials: 16 Detent

I've found similar parts but they are not an exact physical fit so they might look odd, require different knobs and/or not solder directly to the board. Not good.

We were able to get through to CTS but they stated that a minimum order of 1000 pieces was required which is way out of our budget at $5-10 a piece and more than we could ever expect to use. If we can find a close replacement, we'd like to get about 50 for our stock. Any thoughts, suggestions, connections, etc.. would be most appreciated. - Bob Sellon
