One of the new features of the Stec Special ROM is a pseudo-melotron mode. In this mode, audio loops can "played" with a MIDI keyboard. The following graphic shows the whats going on:

Each key controls the signal level of a particular channel. All mixer channels are set to OFF when no keys are pressed.

Initializing the system in the Melotron mode is a little different from the normal looping mode. When the first loop is tapped in, all of the remaining loops on the Page are automatically initialized immediately thereafter. In the Melotron mode, the loops are initialized blank. Audio is added to each loop by pressing keys in the middle octave (the Layer mode). The audio in a loop can be replaced (Replace mode) by pressing keys in the low octave.
