If you are connecting a USB audio interface to a computer and experiencing long lags between new audio and existing audio (overdubbing) and MIDI or built in metronome, be sure to connect directly into the computer itself. I recently picked up a TASCAM US-1800 and had the device connected, along with a couple of MIDI interfaces, to a Belkin USB hub which, it turned out, was adding almost a half second to the latency. I'm using Sonar 8.5 which provides a Record Latency Adjustment that allows you to fine tune the latency but the delay introduced by the Belkin (FSU404) was more than was more than the +-5000 samples that can be compensated for so I had to go direct.
