#1 Editing MP3 Properties
February 24, 2012, 02:17:57 PM
This is a quick guide on how to edit the title, artist name and more for MP3 files on Windows computers.  The details vary but the basic procedure is the same for most versions of Windows.

  • Right click on Windows start icon, normally on the bottom left of the screen, and select "Explore". The Windows file explorer should open allowing you to view the files on your computer.
  • Locate and select an mp3 file.
  • Right click and select the Properties menu item (sometimes at the bottom of the list). This will open up the Properties editor for the file.
  • Select the Summary tab if it exists. Applications can add custom editors here so you might see a tab named "ID Tag" which you can select to get to the title and other properties. Otherwise..
  • Click the Advanced button. This should open the Advanced version of the Summary page with lots more Properties you can edit.
  • Double click a property to edit it.
  • Click Ok, Save or Apply
If you are working with recordings of your band, editing the ID properties (sometimes called meta-data), it's a lot easier to keep track of what the files contain; portable recorders and cell phones often use generic names. The Comment field is a good place to put information about when and where the file was created.

NOTE - You can edit select more than one file and edit the Properties of them all in one shot! Huge time saver.
